The inscription
This symbol is an inscription meaning “ÉIRE”, the ancient Irish name for Ireland.
This is what ÉIRE looks like written in the ancient Irish script called “ogham” (‘oh-um’) which was carved in upright stones to mark territories, burial places and other messages of importance many centuries ago in Ireland when the spoken language was Irish (Gaeilge) and the Celtic culture was at its peak!
Each cluster of lines represents a letter, and is read from bottom to top.
